i have just purchased the single greatest tribute album ever recorded. well, tribute/compilation i guess... there’s a bunch of different bands on it anyway.
that’s right! it’s SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK! ROCKS, and it is just fucking amazing! the album features such amazing artists as Deluxx Folk Implosion, Blind Melon, Biz Markie, Moby, Better Than Ezra and Ween!
let me tell you. this album is just... well, fun. sure, it’s childish, but singing along with these amp’d up tunes is just great. (Better Than Ezra’s cover of Three Is A Magic Number was recently featured in the movie You, Me and Dupree.)
the album brings back a lot of memories and i cannot speak highly enough of this album. from start to finish, this little tribute to early childhood learning is crazy good.
people have reviewed this album saying that the artists didn’t really stay true to the original feel of the cartoon... but seriously, who wants to hear the cartoon songs again when you’re in your late 20s? shit, if you have kids you’ve probably already bought the DVD collections because you know they work. so why not rock out with your kids on the way to day care where you’ll drop ‘em for 6-8 hours a day leaving them to socialize and form stronger bonds with their teachers than they ever will with you?
